A big ‘Thank You’ to all our Sponsors and Donors from Mairin Safety Shufflers

Our initial aim for our Relay for Life campaign was to raise $1500. This was a conservative goal as we only had a few months to prepare until the event was scheduled and we had little experience in fundraising.

By the end of the event we had raised $7,382.60 and in doing so had totally eclipsed our initial expectations!!

Our efforts were recognised by the event committee with a certificate for the most money raised by a team based on its size.

Significantly also it means that our team will be provided an opportunity to direct the money we raised into a cancer research program through a grant of our naming.

All of this would not have been possible without the encouragement we received from the Latrobe Relay for Life committee and friends and family who contributed to the fundraising.

We were also fortunate to receive the support from many businesses who similarly felt this was a meaningful way to support the Cancer Council and the Relay for Life event. Although they would be themselves too modest for recognition we are proud to acknowledge their assistance and recommend you to support them.

Power Station Outage Safety Performance Benefits the Community

Mairin OHS&E Consulting was recently engaged to provide asbestos monitoring and testing services during an outage at Yallourn W Power Station. This enabled our company to provide a critical service for the duration of the outage through establishing an on-site asbestos identification laboratory for the first time. By providing this service we were able to ensure that any materials suspected to contain asbestos could be analysed rapidly to minimise potential disruption to the daily works program and enable workers to get back to their job safely.

As part of an initiative between Energy Australia and contractors a set of safety performance criteria were agreed to before the outage commenced. Aside from providing a safe place and systems of work, these goals had an added incentive. Energy Australia and contractors committed to make donations to local organisations, as chosen by health and safety representatives in the workplace, if the safety objectives were met.

Among the many happy faces in the photo below is our own Ms. Jenna Perks during the presentation of a $500.00 gift voucher from us to Baringa Special School in Moe. The voucher (and several others also presented on the day) will be used by the school to purchase important sporting goods and musical equipment for students.

Successful Relay For Life Latrobe Valley Event

Cancer changes lives.

All of us at Mairin OHS&E Consulting have been witness to the impacts of cancer and the effect it can have on sufferers and all those in their lives. This year we decided as a collective to help in some way.

Relay for Life is an annual overnight community event where teams participate in a relay style walk (or run) with the goal to raise money for the Cancer Council’s research, prevention and support programs.

‘Mairin Safety Shufflers’ entered ‘Latrobe Relay for Life’ for the first time in 2015.

We entered the Relay for Life with the initial ambitious aim of keeping someone on the track for the entire 18 hours of the event! Most importantly however we wanted to raise money for the Cancer Council.

The event was an experience for all that attended. The carer and survivors lap, candlelight ceremony and the slideshow were highlights of the weekend and especially moving.

Another notable feature was the social nature of the event.

Some quotes from staff of their highlights from the weekend:

  • “Selling helium balloons and other fun items from our stall, the enjoyment the children were having and being able to interact with them in this way. These are things which are outside the experiences normally associated with the work that we do”
  • “They sold hot jam donuts”
  • “Prodding Jenna to wake her up and get her on the track for her turn at 3am”

Many hours of hard work were put in by our staff, friends and family to organise the team and the fundraising. Knowing the money we raised was going to a great cause made the event a very rewarding experience.

After participating in this wonderful event, plus the encouragement that we received along the way, we hope to continue entering the Relay for Life for many years to come.

‘Mairin Safety Shufflers’ to star in Cancer Council Relay for Life!

Mairin window displayOK. Maybe ‘star’ is going over the top a bit, but we will be there helping raise money for cancer.

Cancer changes lives! Whether you are a sufferer, a carer, a relative, a workmate or a friend, it can have an enormous impact on you.  More money is always needed for ongoing research into the causes of and cures for cancer.

The staff at Mairin have entered a team in this year’s ‘Relay for Life’ fundraiser at Gaskin Park, Churchill on the 17th October 2015.

This event is an overnight, community event that brings people together for a night of fun, entertainment, celebration and remembrance. We have called our team the Mairin Safety Shufflers. The ‘Shufflers’ part was because, apart from Stuart, none of us have the fitness level required to run all night but we will keep shuffling along.

If you see our collection tins out in the community, your donation will help motivate us to shuffle a little harder.
